A phone QR code uses the standard tel: format: scan it and the phone shows a call screen with your number ready. The caller just taps the button. It's the fastest path from printed material to a conversation.

Use it anywhere people might want to call you: business cards, “call now” posters, storefront windows, delivery packaging and support cards.

Because the number is encoded directly, a phone QR code is static and permanent: no redirect, no tracking link and nothing to renew. It keeps working for as long as the number is yours.

Where a phone QR code earns its place

A phone QR code works best wherever a call is genuinely the quickest outcome: after-hours and emergency lines, taxi and locksmith signage, real-estate boards outside a property, and delivery packaging where a customer needs to reach the driver. The whole win is removing the typing: nobody mis-dials a number they scanned.

Label the code with the action (“Call us”) and show the number in text beside it, both for trust and for anyone whose device cannot dial. Always include the country code with a leading + so the same sign works for visitors from abroad, and keep the code at least 2–2.5 cm wide in print so a camera locks on from arm's length. For a storefront where people may want your details for later rather than a call right now, a vCard code is often the better pick.

Does it call automatically when scanned?
No. The phone shows the number and a call button. The person confirms before anything dials.
Should I include the country code?
Yes, especially if the code may be scanned by international visitors. A leading + followed by the country code (e.g. +44 20 1234 5678) works worldwide.
What happens on a phone without calling ability, like a tablet?
The scanner usually offers to open the number in a calling app if one is installed; otherwise nothing happens. The code itself remains valid.
Can I include an extension?
You can add one with a comma pause, for example +1 555 123 4567,789, but support varies by phone, and some dialers ignore anything after the main number. If a direct extension really matters, a vCard code that stores the extension as part of the contact is more dependable.
Will a single code work internationally?
Yes, as long as the number is stored in full international format with a leading + and the country code. Without the +, a scanner may try to dial it as a local number and fail for people in other countries.
Can I track how many people scan it?
No. A phone QR code dials the number directly with nothing in between, so there are no scan analytics. To count responses, route calls through a dedicated tracking number, or use a URL QR code to a landing page with a click-to-call button.
