Tips for better-scanning URL QR codes

Shorter links produce simpler QR codes with larger modules, which scan faster and more reliably. If your URL is long — for example with tracking parameters — consider shortening it first. Every character you remove makes the code easier to scan from a distance.

Use HTTPS links wherever possible. Some phones warn before opening insecure HTTP pages, which costs you scans. If you print the code, test it at the actual printed size before mass production — see our QR code size guide for recommended dimensions.

Do URL QR codes expire?
No. The link is encoded directly inside the QR code, so it works forever — there is no account, no subscription and no service that can switch it off. The only thing that can break it is the page itself moving or going offline.
Can I change the link later?
Not in a static QR code — the destination is physically encoded in the pattern. If the link changes, generate a new code (it takes seconds here). Codes whose destination can be edited later are called dynamic QR codes and require a redirect service.
Does it matter if my URL is long?
It works either way, but shorter URLs create QR codes with fewer, larger modules that scan more easily — especially from a distance or on small prints. Long URLs with many tracking parameters still work fine; they just produce a denser pattern.
Do I need to add https:// myself?
No. If you type a plain address like example.com/page, we automatically encode it as https://example.com/page. Full URLs starting with http:// or https:// are used exactly as you enter them.
Can I use tracking parameters like UTM tags?
Yes. Any valid URL works, including UTM parameters and anchors. Keep in mind that every extra character makes the QR pattern slightly denser.
Can I print URL QR codes commercially?
Yes — on flyers, packaging, menus, business cards, anything. The codes you generate here are free of watermarks and free for commercial use.
