A WhatsApp QR code encodes your wa.me chat link: scanning it opens a chat with your number the moment it's scanned, with an optional first message already written. For customer service, orders and bookings it's the lowest-friction channel there is: one scan and the customer is in a conversation with you.

It works with both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business, and the number must include its country code (e.g. +44, +49, +91) even for local use.

The code encodes a plain wa.me link, so it is static and free to use: no WhatsApp Business API, no per-message cost and nothing to renew. As long as the number stays active on WhatsApp, the code keeps opening a chat to it.

Turning WhatsApp scans into conversations

A good pre-filled message does two jobs: it tells you where the scan came from and it lowers the effort for the customer. Something like “Hi, I saw your menu QR, I'd like to book a table” means you already know the context before you reply. Keep it short and in the customer's own voice, since it lands in their input box for them to edit or send as-is.

Use a different pre-filled message on each piece of material, one on table tents, another on flyers, another on packaging, and you get a rough, free read on which placement drives chats, just from the first line that arrives. Always include the country code with a leading +, label the code so people know it opens WhatsApp rather than a generic link, and remember a WhatsApp Business number behaves exactly the same as a personal one here.

What does the person see when they scan it?
WhatsApp opens a chat with your number. If you added a pre-filled message, it sits in the input box. They can edit it or send it as-is.
Is this for logging into WhatsApp Web?
No. This generator creates a QR code that starts a chat with your number, for business cards, shop counters, flyers and stickers. The QR code shown inside WhatsApp on your phone (Settings → Linked devices) is for logging into WhatsApp Web on a computer and can't be reused or shared.
Why do I need the country code?
WhatsApp links (wa.me) only work with full international numbers. If the number doesn't work, double-check the country code: +1 for the US, +44 for the UK, +49 for Germany, and so on.
Does it add me to their contacts?
No, it just opens the chat. Your number gets saved only if they choose to save it.
Can I link to a WhatsApp group?
Group joins use WhatsApp's invite links rather than phone numbers. Since those links contain a long invite token, the URL QR code tool is the better fit: paste the group's invite link there.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes, WhatsApp Business uses the same phone-based chat links, so business numbers work exactly the same.
