Sharing Wi-Fi safely

A Wi-Fi QR code contains your password, so anyone who can scan it can join your network. That's exactly what you want for guests — but treat a printed code like the password itself. Don't post it publicly if your network holds sensitive devices, and consider a separate guest network for visitors.

If you change your Wi-Fi password later, simply generate a new code here and replace the old print. The old code will keep trying to connect with the old password and fail, so swap it out wherever it's displayed.

Does a Wi-Fi QR code reveal my password?
The password is encoded inside the QR code, so anyone who scans it can join your network — but the password itself isn't displayed; phones use it silently to connect. Treat the printed code with the same care as the password.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Modern versions of both iOS and Android recognize Wi-Fi QR codes directly in the camera app. On older phones, the built-in QR scanner or a free scanner app handles it.
Which security type should I pick?
Choose WPA/WPA2 for almost all home and office networks — it also works for WPA3 networks on current phones. WEP is only for very old equipment. If your network is open (no password), choose None.
My network name or password has special characters — will it break?
No. Special characters like ; : , " and \ are properly escaped, which is a common bug in other generators. Enter your details exactly as they appear in your router settings.
Can I share a hidden network?
Yes — tick “Hidden network”. The QR code then tells the phone to search for the hidden SSID instead of waiting for it to broadcast.
What happens when I change my Wi-Fi password?
The old code stops working because it contains the old password. Generate a fresh code with the new password and replace the printed one.
